A galeria Extéril é um projecto Teixeira Barbosa concebido para divulgar as artes sem fins lucrativos. Desde a sua inauguração até 2005 este projecto esteve numa atitude de ocupa numa antiga fábrica, no qual as exposições realizavam-se, mais ou menos, como uma sociedade secreta. O Projecto Extéril coexiste num espaço físico e virtual para o livre desenvolvimento da arte e do artista. Ou seja, um espaço alternativo do circuito artístico entendido como tal. Inicialmente a Extéril foi projectada para existir apenas virtualmente, ou seja, as exposições apenas se realizariam online. Todavia, por proposta de um colega, criou-se um espaço físico. Juan José Fuentes tinha um projecto chamado Altercado (para o qual a Extéril tem um link), e, na altura pensou-se fazer uma cadeia de pequenas galerias. Entretanto, e por motivos alheios à nossa vontade a galeria Altercado teve que parar a sua actividade, assim como uma outra criada por Dani Vila Seoane.
